A Brief in the History of Lindos!
There is a Legend claiming that Lindos was founded by Danaus, who came to the village, together with his 50 daughters, in order to escape from his brother, named Egypt. The Temple of Lindian Athena is said to be built by Danaus and his daughters as an indication of honor to the Goddess for helping them. Back in the statements of ancient history, the village was established by the Dorians, led by the king Tlepolemus of Rhodes, back in the 10th Century BC. The place was one of the six Dorian Cities in the area known as Dorian Hexapolis. In today’s history, it is important to say that Lindos was the municipality of Rhodes, up until 2011. After a government reform it is part of the municipality Rhodes, of which it is a municipal unit.
